Toyota Safety Sense*TM

Toyota’s number one priority is safety. Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) offers an advanced suite of safety features standard on most models by Autumn 2017.

Toyota Safety Sense has two available packages based on the particular vehicle:


Toyota Safety SenseTM  C also known as SSC is for the compact car segment  - includes the Corolla IM, Yaris Hatchback, Prius c 

Toyota Safety SenseTM  P also known as SSP is for the mid to large car segments  - includes the 2017 Corolla, 2017 Highlander, 2017 Highlander Hybrid, 2017 Avalon, 2017 RAV4, 2017 RAV4 Hybrid, 2017 Prius, 2016 Avalon (Limited Package), 2016 RAV4 AWD (Limited Package), 2016 RAV4 Hybrid (Limited with Technology Package)

Below are the Toyota Safety Sense Features: 

Lane Departure Alert (included in both SSC and SSP) – Alerts the driver if the vehicle begins to drift out of the lane when visible land markings are detected. On some models, the Steering Assist function may help provide small corrective steering inputs.














Automatic High Beam (included in both SSC and SSP) – Designed to detect ongoing and preceding vehicles’ lights and depending upon the circumstances, Automatic High Beam can switch high and low beams for you.














Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (included in only the SSP)– the system can automatically adjust vehicle speed to help maintain a preset following distance between you and the vehicle directly in front of you using its forward sensing radar technology.













Pre-Collision System (included in both SSC and SSP) with Pedestrian Detection (included in only the SSP) – collision avoidance or collision mitigation support in speed ranges where frontal collision can occur. It will also help detect pedestrians and help prevent or mitigate a collision.














*All vechicles have Toyota’s Star Safety System, introduced in 2011 which features six technologies:

  • Vehicle Stability Control - helps prevent wheelslip and loss of traction by reducing engine power and applying brake force to the wheels that need it.
  • Traction Control - helps maintain traction on wet, icy, loose or uneven surfaces by applying brake force to the spinning wheel(s).
  • Brake Assist - designed to detect sudden or "panic" braking and then add the full pressure needed to help prevent a collision.
  • Electronic Brake Force Distribution - designed to help keep the vehicle more stable and balanced when braking.
  • Anti-Lock Brake System - helps prevent brakes from locking up by "pulsing" brake pressure to each wheel to help you stay in control in emergency braking situations.
  • Smart Stop Technology - automatically cuts engine power and allows the brakes to take precedence over the accelerator when both pedals are pressed at the same time.
